A growing trend amongst social media platforms, the ‘hide’ feature allows users to minimise the content they see from people they’re connected with. Seems pretty mean right? Well, Instagram thinks that its new ‘Mute’ feature will help users to ‘control’ more of what they see on their Instagram feeds.
There’s now a few different ‘Mute’ options on your Instagram feed: mute a person’s posts, mute their stories, or mute both. These options are pretty easy to find. Simply click on the 3 dots (…) at the top right of someone’s profile (image above) or post (image below) and select the ‘Mute’ option. You will then be presented with the 3 options as above, depending on just how annoying you find that particular person.
A user won’t be notified if you mute their posts or stories, so happily mute away without them ever knowing. Instagram says that is has introduced the feature to make your feed more personalised. Although the feed is primarily still operated by algorithms, the company wants you to see more relevant content – that means content from close friends, family and posts you’re actually interested in seeing.
The Instagram ‘Mute’ feature is being rolled out today. How many people will you be muting?
